This weekend has been very bloody, for lack of a better word, it should aptly be called a sad weekend. On Friday, two schoolgirl suicide bombers killed close to 50 in Adamawa, this was followed on Saturday with the death of another 200 Nigerians when a church collapsed in Uyo. And today, another two deadly bomb blasts near a crowded marketplace in Nigeria’s northeastern city of Maiduguri have left more than a dozen casualties.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), says the explosion was carried out by two suicide bombers, a male and a female near the popular Monday market.
NEMA’s information officer, Sani Datti, said in a statement that “only the suicide bombers lost their lives, and 17 persons were injured and evacuated to the Specialist Hospital Maiguduri.”
Of the 17 people injured, four are said to be in stable condition, while the rest of them are in critical states.
Meanwhile the governor, Kassim Shittima has ordered the reopening of the market for the day’s business.
