The Department of State Security Service, DSS, Yobe State Command, Tuesday arrested a woman, identified only as Baraka, for allegedly kidnapping her own son and demanding a ransom of N5m from her husband.
The mother of two was said to have connived with one Rukayya and another accomplice who called the husband, pretending to be the kidnapper and demanded the said ransom.
According to reports in Daily Trust, Baraka indulged in the act after her husband refused to buy her a new car.The woman’s husband, Yusuf, was said to have negotiated with the fake abductor to pay N2 million but alerted the DSS after repeated calls and text massages discussing the said ransom.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Bitrus Noam, said the case was with the Department of State Security Service.
According to Noam, investigation by the DSS operatives led to the arrest of the mother who confessed to have stage-managed her son’s kidnap.
The PPRO added that the accused wife had earlier asked the husband to buy her a new car which he declined and that Yusuf, who was shocked by the wife’s attitude, divorced her immediately.
The 10-year-old son has since been returned home safely after the kidnap plan failed,” the PPRO stated.
