A crowdfunding appeal to raise money for the family of Henry Ayabowei, 27, who died following an attack outside a nightclub, has smashed its initial £1,000 target six times over.
More than £6,000 was been raised for the partner and two children.
Henry Ayabowei, a Nigerian popularly known as Henry Esin, was an amateur footballer. Mr Ayabowie, known to his friends as Romeo, was attacked near Peep nightclub in Bangor in the early hours of Saturday April 1.
The father-of two from Llangefni, who was popular in football circles on Anglesey, died in hospital on Sunday. Yesterday morning a crowdfunding effort was set up on GoFundMe by Llangefni mum-of-three Eleri Dennis to raise money for his family.
More than 400 people have donated to the fundraising effort in just 13 hours, raising £6,105 as of 10.30pm on Monday. The initial target of £1,000 is now £7,000.
Writing an update on the page, Eleri said: “Can I just say how proud I am of our local people! “Over £5000 raised since this morning and it’s still pouring in. Absolutely amazing!
“Thank you so so so so much for all your help, support and donations for Mel (Mr Ayabowie’s partner) and the girls so far. “I’ll keep saying it, totally overwhelmed with such response.
“Thank you to all local businesses helping out too, Joe’s cabs, Cain, The market, The Railway, Gwynfor’s coaches to name but a few.”
