SuperSport is delighted to announce that the impending 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) will be live and in High Definition across our various platforms and channels.

From January 17 to February 8, the Afcon football matches will be broadcast live on DStv and GOtv with expert analysis from one of football’s greatest winners, Marcel Desailly, among others.

DStv subscribers will have access to all 32 matches across five channels: SS5/HD, SS7, SS9East, Maximo and Select while GOtv subscribers will have access to a select number of matches on SuperSport Select 1 including the kick-off and final matches.

“Afcon is Africa’s showpiece football event and we are delighted to offer it on various channels and platforms to ensure the channels are the number one destination for Afcon action for viewers across Africa,” said John Ugbe, Managing Director, MultiChoice Nigeria, “We have no doubt we will see football of the highest quality, affirming the talent that abounds on the continent.”

SuperSport 5/HD – available to Premium, Compact and Compact Plus subscribers – will be a 24-hour channel dedicated to the tournament while SS7 will act as the overflow channel at the playoff stage where matches will kick off simultaneously. A selection of matches will be made available on the other channels.

SuperSport’s social media platforms and Blitz’s rolling coverage will offer viewers up-to-the-minute match updates, team news and player reactions as well as post-match press conferences.

Ghanaian-born former France international Desailly will headline SuperSport’s stellar line-up of analysts which includes Neil Tovey, former Ghana international Samuel Kuffour and the straight-talking Benni McCarthy.

Desailly’s expert opinion is highly sought-after by broadcasters around the world given that he has won almost all there is to win by an international. His honours include the FIFA World Cup and Confederations Cup, the Euro Championship, the Uefa Champions League and Super Cup as well as many domestic league and cup titles.

The analysts will also lend their expert opinion and knowledge to Masterplan, a show which unpacks the matches from a tactical point of view. Masterplan is one of two weekly magazine shows that will be available on SuperSport, the other being Harambe, which will bring viewers even closer to the action through social media interaction and the sights and sounds of Equatorial Guinea. Harambe will be anchored by Chiko Lawi.

Analysing matches in an hour-long build-up and hour-long wrap is a multinational team of individuals well-versed in continental football: the South African duo of Robert Marawa and Carol Tshabalala will be based in studio. Yaw Ampofu-Ankrah from Ghana, Franklin Tembo Jnr from Zambia and South Africa’s Sizwe Mabena are the roving reporters in Equatorial Guinea bringing the viewer pre- and post-match interviews as well as fans’ reaction.
