Buhari : I Will Do Away With The Office For First Lady

0

Nigeria’s former military leader and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari, has said he will be doing away with an office for the first lady if elected as Nigeria’s next president in the forthcoming 2015 presidential elections.

Explaining his reasons, Buhari maintained that there is no office of the first lady in the Nigerian constitution and there is no official role for presidents’ wives.

He disclosed this during an exclusive interview with Weekly Trust in Kaduna.

The former military head of state believes that the Ministry of Women Affairs, which is recognized under the constitution, should be allowed to play their roles.

However, he added that women would play an important role in his administration as he knows what they can do if given an opportunity.

I was raised by my mother, as I lost my father when I was under six years, so I know what a woman can do if given the chance,” Buhari said.

Muhammad Buhari stressed that he had the greatest respect for women.
