Burna Boy becomes first African artiste to sell out 80,000-capacity London Stadium.

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Burna Boy, continued his current upward trajectory of career success by performing in a sold out, 80,000 London Stadium, making history in the process.

Burna Boy’s concert, which took place on Saturday in the UK, sparked a great deal of enthusiasm among his followers.

The London Stadium praised the artist for the accomplishment on Saturday before the performance and confirmed the claim via its official Twitter account.

It tweeted: “NOW SOLD OUT @burnaboy’s RECORD-BREAKING concert has now officially SOLD OUT.

“What an incredible achievement for the first-ever African artist to solo headline a UK stadium. For those lucky enough to make it, enjoy the show.”

The concert was previously confirmed by Burna Boy as one of the dates for his global “Love, Damini” tour.

Burna Boy made history by being the first African artist to perform at a stadium in the United Kingdom. The Grammy-winning, Nigerian-born artist, who has endeared himself to Britain’s African and Caribbean communities for more than a decade with his blend of Afrobeats with pop, dancehall, hip-hop, and R&B influences, has pushed into the UK mainstream with star-studded collaborations with act such as Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Jorja Smith, and copped with this year summer 2023’s ubiquitous Top 5 solo single “Last Last”.

This concert confirms the significance of African music in British culture by evoking the aural influences that create a whole continent.

Burna’s entry is preceded by thudding talking drums, saxophone licks, and emotive dance moves from a mesmerising white-clad dancing group.

The stage was designed to look like a fairground, and is called the Love Damini Fair after his most recent album. A golden merry-go-round revolves to reveal the performer, who was dressed in a striking orange jumpsuit blowing in the breeze.

Starting off a two-hour performance, it’s evident that the star’s swagger—his wide grin and explosive moves in concert with a vibrant band—rests on thankfulness. He expresses this thanks by cliched but profoundly moving appeals to the crowd: “Words cannot express the feelings I am experiencing at this moment; I have never dreamed more of this.”
