Dapchi Schoolgirls Kidnapping Saga: Truth Or Fiction?

0

Nigerians are happy so is the rest of the world on the release of schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists from Government Girls’ Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State last month. This brings to an end the ugly saga of schoolgirls kidnapping by Boko Haram part two, while part one, the Chibok kidnapping is yet unresolved.

Curious onlookers have questioned the Dapchi kidnapping from the moment it was first reported especially the conflicting information and denial coming from different organs of government. We were told of a rescue only for the government to turn around to say the rescue story was false.

The release of the girls broke around noon yesterday. The government machine went into overdrive to convince us that no ransom was paid when it’s on record that it paid ransom to get some of the Chibok girls released. Till date, the exact number of the girls kidnapped in Dapchi is still contentious. The government said 110, the parents of the children gave 105.

Before the release of the girls yesterday, the government body language did not show any urgency to rescue the girls even though the Minister of Defence assured the nation that the girls will be released soon and unharmed. Is the government not telling the truth surrounding the Dapchi kidnapping? The military stationed in Dapchi were withdrawn and relocated elsewhere leaving the coast clear for Boko Haram to practically sauntered into Dapchi and carry out its dastard crime.

How come the numerous warnings given to the security operatives were ignored before the girls were kidnapped according to Amnesty International. Is Dapchi orchestrated to give this government a boost? To beat its chest that it did a good under the same circumstance compared t the previous administration.

The Dapchi saga is incredible on many fronts.  We are told that Boko Haram dropped the girls at 3 a.m in the wee hours of the night but reports and video have shown that the girls were brought back in numerous SUVs in broad daylight with cheers. The death of five of the girls does not really ring true. How did they die? The account given by some of the girls of being well treated and fed during their captivity doesn’t meet the characteristics of the notorious Boko Haram that we all know.

Is it also true that the only Christian among the girls kidnapped was not released? There a dark cloud over the Dapchi kidnapping, some many uncorrelated and controvertible account of what transcends. We are told 101 girls were released, 5 dead, what happened to the remaining 4?

When some of the Chibok girls were released, they were taken to a secret location where they are tested and cared for before they were brought to meet the president and their parents, why did the Dapchi girls’ case so different. Are we saying a month is not enough to radicalize a young and innocent girl?

Can somebody tell us what truly happened in Dapchi? The governor of the state was in Abuja when the girls were kidnapped and he didn’t return immediately as the exigency of the situation requires then. When the girls were released yesterday, he was far away in Malaysia. Is the state not working in cahoot with the federal government on this issue?

Perhaps, everything is all right and I’m just being paranoid over nothing, To me, something doesn’t just fit about the whole Dapchi saga. What happened in Dapchi last month which culminated with the release of the girls yesterday, was it true or an orchestration of government to capture our emotions? Is Dapchi a pawn in the game of chess of 2019 to secure our support and votes or a government exhibiting efficiency and swift handling of a serious situation? My head is reeling, I’m dazed and confused, I can’t separate the wheat from the chaff.
