Canadian superstar, Drake, has shared the his father’s ancenstry online.
Grammy award-winning Canadian rapper, Aubrey Graham—better known as Drake—, appeared to embrace his Nigerian heritage after disclosing the startling results of his father’s DNA genealogy test.

The Toronto-born singer revealed that he is primarily of Nigerian heritage, along with other African nations, by posting the results of his father, Dennis Graham’s DNA test on Instagram. Drake’s caption reads as follows:

“This is my dad’s results does this mean I’m a Naija man finally?”

Recent years have seen a rise in the popularity of DNA ancestry tests, particularly among well-known western celebrities. People now have the chance to learn details about their genetic ethnicity that may not be readily available through family history or historical documents thanks to genetic testing.

The rapper’s admission serves as a contemporary illustration of Black people in the diaspora who may trace their ancestry to Nigeria. The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, disclosed last year that she is 43 percent Nigerian, whereas the American musician Lil Wayne claimed to be 53 percent Nigerian.

The Her Loss MC also had unexpected ties to Scotland, England, Northwestern Europe, the Western Bantu Peoples of the Congo, Cameroon, and Ghana. Drake is multiracial, with his mother Sandi being Jewish-Canadian and his father being African American, it should be noted.

Drake has worked with many African celebrities over the past ten years, including DJ Black Coffee from South Africa and Nigerian afrobeats hitmakers, Wizkid and Burna Boy.

Drake uses his father’s ancestry test to demonstrate his Nigerian heritage.
