EU Election Monitors To Arrive This Week

Election monitoring team from the European Union (EU) are expected to arrive Nigeria later this week to assess next month’s general elections against national law and international principles for elections contained in regional and international law and standards.

The EU in a statement issued by its office in Brussels on Tuesday disclosed that the election observer mission would be led by Santiago Fisas Ayxela who is a member of the European parliament, from Spain.

It further revealed that a delegation from the European parliament and EU diplomats in Nigeria would also join the mission on election days.

According to the office, nine analysts of the core team had already arrived Nigeria since January 6 in addition to the advance team which was deployed during the party primaries last November and December.
