To an adherent of Islam, Ramadan is supposed to be a sacred month. A month of fasting, praying and doing good deeds. A month where the best of Islam is meant to be showcased to the world but the spate of terrorist atrocities from Afghanistan to the United Kingdom all in the name of Islam is turning logic on its head. Surely, this can’t be Islam.
Barely two weeks that a terrorist killed 22 people including children in Manchester, another horrendous terrorist attack has taken place in London as militants drove a van at high speed into pedestrians on London Bridge before stabbing Saturday night revelers on the street and in nearby bars, killing at least seven people and wounding more than 40.
This happened few hours after 19 people were killed by explosions at the funeral for a politician’s son who died in violent clashes in the Afghan capital Kabul. The series of blasts happened as government officials – and reportedly members of parliament – were attending the burial of Mohammad Salim Ezadyar, the son of the senate deputy speaker. Over 100 people were injured.
On Wednesday, about 90 people were killed and close to 500 injured when massive explosion rocked the highly secure diplomatic area of Kabul, the Afghan capital. The bomb hidden in a sewage tanker close to the German embassy in the Wazir Akbar Khan area of the capital. This happened in the peak of rush hour barely 48 hours into the holy month of Ramadan.
Just yesterday in Cameroon, nine refugees and two suicide bombers died and dozens wounded in a double bombing at a refugee camp housing civilians in northern part of the country.
The threat of Islamist terrorists is global. A number of European cities have tasted the bitter pill of their dastardly and cowardly actions- Berlin, Nice, Brussels and Paris. It is the same tale of sorrow, tears and blood in Syria, northeast Nigeria, Iraq, Turkey and Mali just to mention a few. Truly, calling these nefarious killers Islamic faithfuls, is equating a lizard with a crocodile. They are simply cold-hearted, godless killers.
Muslims are now living in fear of reprisal attack. Many are even questioning the essence of religion if all we get is this hatred and senseless killings. These killers seems not deterred by the global coalition against them. They don’t even respect nor observe the sanctity of Ramadan. They simply want us to live in fear, in boundage. We mustn’t allow hate to trample on love. We must stand together and fight this evil.
These blood lettings are way too much, no religion condones the killing of the innocent. I know Islam is a religion with total submission to the will of God, it’s imperative all faiths come together and fight these terrorists. At this junction, it is safe to say we are in world war 3- the world against Islamist terrorists. The war of ideology. And the world must win quickly. Enough is enough, these killers are not Muslims.
