National Council Of State Meeting Holds In Abuja

The National Council of State hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari is ongoing at the State House presidential villa Abuja.

The meeting will likely be centred on the security challenges presently plaguing the country. The council can also advise the president on matters such also as population census, the prerogative of mercy, the award of national honours as well as the appointment of board and leadership of the INEC.

Today’s meeting is the third to be hosted by Mr. Buhari since his assumption of office in 2015. The National Council of State which comprises of former heads of state and presidents,  vice president, senate president, speaker of the House of Representatives, the 36 governors and the attorney general and minister of justice is an advisory body to the president.

The former presidents present at the meeting are Olusegun Obasanjo, Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar. Others are conspicuously absent.
