Afrobeats enthusiasts from around Nigeria gathered in Lagos on Thursday to call for an investigation into the tragic death of a young singer last week.

Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known by his stage name MohBad, was a rapper and musician who wrote hits including “Feel Good” and passed away suddenly last Tuesday at the age of 27.

There are many different theories about what caused his death.

“I’m exhausted psychologically. Mama J., a fashion designer, said, “I feel so terrible about how someone could be bullied up until this point and they see that they take their life.

Mohbad’s passing has sparked outrage on Nigeria’s social media, with some people suggesting that he was harassed by strong figures in the nation’s incredibly influential music industry.

The national police in Lagos State, the financial and cultural centre of Nigeria, declared on Monday that a special team had been assembled to carry out a “fair and transparent investigation.”

Eltee Skahillz, an Afrobeat star, said: “Nobody deserves to die at 27 now, nobody deserves to die an untimely death, nobody deserves to die without knowing what killed them, nobody deserves to die that way, it’s wrong, it should be something that everyone should be concerned with.

After being signed by the influential record label of well-known rapper Naira Marley, one of the top Afrobeats artists in the nation, MohBad’s career took off in 2019. In 2022, the two decided to separate ways due to differences.

With an internet petition that has accumulated more than 250,000 signatures, several fans have now accused the rapper’s team of being involved in MohBad’s death.
