No Extension Of PVCs Collection – INEC

0

With the deadline for distribution of the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) over, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has achieved 81.98 percent collection status and is set to conduct the general elections.

The Commission also said that it has no plan to further extend the collection of PVCs after last Saturday’s deadline.

While answering questions in a telephone interview with The Guardian in Abuja yesterday, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of the Commission, Kayode Idowu, said, “To what end will the extension be? If you extend till next year, if the collection has reached a saturation point it won’t go tremendously higher.”

Recall that before the February 7 postponement, the total number of PVCs collected was 45,829,808, representing 66.58% of the total number of registered voters.

But Idowu yesterday disclosed that after the six weeks postponement of the elections, about 56,431,255, representing 81.98 percent of the total number of voters have so far collected the cards by last Saturday.
