Over 10,000 Job Openings at Lagos Microsoft Career Fair 2015

Software giant, Microsoft is in partnership with The Chosen Breed, Jobberman and Endive Project to showcase over 10,000 job openings for the Nigerian youthful population at Career and Employment Fair 2015. Other partners on the Fair are Fistolas and The Lighthouse, Nigeria Communications Week reports.

The Fair holds Saturday 9th May, 2015 in Ikeja, Lagos.

The Fair is aimed at creating an opportunity for potential job seekers to meet with career experts and recruiters to understand the job market, be positioned and take advantage of available jobs as statistics reveal that 50% of youths (age 18 – 35 years) are either unemployed or underemployed.

Patrick Onwumere, director, Education and Citizenship, Microsoft Nigeria, said “Empowering young people and fostering the development of 21st Century skills for this generation is not only our work at Microsoft, it is our passion. Our employability program in partnership with the Future Project and Jobberman has trained over 63,000 people in two years, this initiative is one of our efforts to place more and more people into jobs and fight unemployment.”

While explaining his reason for partnering on the Job fair, Ayo Daniels, founder of The Lighthouse emphasizes the importance of youth development in Nigeria and the mandate of The Lighthouse through her activities to continually raise leaders who can create employment in different sectors of the economy. “We are called to resolve societal issues and we will not relent in creating opportunities for the youths of Nigeria through our various empowerment initiatives,” he asserted.

Anieti Ukpe, MD/CEO, Fistolas Limited, a High Performance Technology Training Company, emphasized the opportunity available for job seekers to improve their employability by developing transferable skills that employers are looking for in this current economy.

“Our support for this initiative is in line with our commitment to empower Nigerian Youths. In the past three years, Fistolas Limited has conducted and managed Mobil Producing Nigeria’s Scholarship program to help young people access the best education, and has also been conducting Outcomes-based Competency Assessor Training for Competency Assessors in ExxonMobil, Bourbon Interoil Nigeria Limited and other reputable companies. Fistolas Limited also conducts School Improvement programs for schools to meet the 21st century competencies in Education.

Debo Ajayi, CEO, Endive Projects opined that “The future of Nigeria is the youths and anyone that focuses on developing the youths will build the future. We need to ensure that we empower youths with information that will enable them get great opportunities to be gainfully employed and productive.”

The Career & Employment Fair 2015 is unique because of the highly practicable learning opportunities, on the spot job assessment for attendees and networking opportunities for both job seekers and recruiters.
