A police officer was shot in the head after a man grabbed her pistol and fired shots at the Unterföhring commuter train station in Munich on Tuesday morning.

Police said the female officer sustained life-threatening injuries. Two bystanders were also wounded.

A 37-year-old German suspect was taken into custody. Police said the incident did not appear to be terror related.

Munich police spokesman Marcus da Gloria Martins said there appeared to be no  “political or religious” motive behind the attack.

The incident occurred during a police check, during which the man tried to push an officer onto the tracks before an oncoming train. During the struggle he took an officer’s pistol and was wounded in return fire.

Helicopters, special police commandos and police responded to the scene and secured the area, located northeast suburb of the Bavarian city.
