The Russian Federation has expressed its readiness to support Nigeria in its fight against Boko Haram insurgency by strengthening military ties.

This cheering news was disclosed at a press briefing of Russian Foreign Affairs Minister, Sergey Lavrov and its Nigerian counterpart, Geoffrey Onyeama in Moscow yesterday. “We will continue to support steps taken by Nigerian government in the fight against Boko Haram,” Lavrov said.

He stressed that the problems in Africa and other troubled regions of the world could only be fully resolved through inclusive dialogue.

Lavrov said Russia would work closely with Nigeria to speed up economic and political agreement between both nations.

On his part, Onyeama noted that the activities of Boko Haram or other form of terrorism were no longer Nigeria’s challenge but a global scourge.

He commended Russia for educating over 10,000 Nigerian students, saying that in 2017 alone, 110 Nigerians benefited under the Russian scholarship programme.
