0

Security forces have evacuated an area around the Louvre museum in central Paris, after reports of a potential attacker being shot by a soldier.

The French soldier reportedly opened fire on and wounded a man armed with a knife who was trying to enter the Louvre, a police source said.

Another police source said the man had been trying to get into the museum’s underground shop with a suitcase. The interior ministry said on twitter the incident was “serious”.

The Louvre has been closed and evacuated. The Louvre museum has about 35,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century on exhibition over an area of 72,735 square metres. The Louvre is the world’s second most visited museum after the Palace Museum in China, receiving closed to 10 million visitors in 2014
