Somali Pirates Hijacked Oil Tanker, Demands Ransom

The dreaded Somali pirates are back after about 5 years lull in their nefarious activities due to the military coalition of international forces. The pirates hijacked a Comoros-flagged tanker Aris 13 on Monday.

The hijacking was the first such seizure of a large commercial vessel off Somalia since 2012. The European Union anti-piracy operation off Somalia says armed men are demanding a ransom for the release of an oil tanker they have seized.

This is according to EU Naval Force statement late Tuesday after making contact with the ship’s master. It was reported by the Associated Press that a Somali pirate who says he is in touch with the armed men says the amount of ransom has not been decided
