Two, Pleads Guilty To Illegal Arms Importation

Two of the five persons arraigned by the Nigerian Customs Service for the illegal importation of 661 pump-action rifles impounded in Lagos port have decided to change their  plea to guilty to the charges.

The accuse Mahmud Hassan, Oscar Okafor, Donatus Achinulo, Matthew Okoye, said to be at large, and Salihu Danjuma were arraigned on June 14.

They had all initially pleaded not guilty to the charges but on Monday Okafor and Achinulo indicated an interest to change their pleas.

After hearing their pleas the court asked the defendants to notify the Attorney General of their new plea.

He then adjourned till September 26 for continuation of trial.

The 661 pump-action rifles were seized by the customs at the Mile 2 Apapa area of Lagos State in May.

The rifles had been hidden in 49 boxes, which were trickily concealed in iron doors, and other goods shipped into the country from China
